Certificate in Wealth, Succession and Legacy

7.5 SILE Public CPD Points (Inclusive of 1.5 Public MEC Points) (TBC)

Programme Overview

The Certificate in Wealth, Succession and Legacy is one of the six learning modules offered under WMI’s Certificate in Family Office for Legal Practitioners programme, developed in partnership with the Law Society of Singapore.

This module focuses on wealth transfer, succession planning, and legacy considerations within the family office and private wealth context. It examines how families plan for the stewardship and transmission of wealth across generations, including the structuring of succession arrangements, alignment of family intentions, and management of inter‑generational expectations across jurisdictions.

The module is designed to be taken as part of a stackable programme structure, allowing participants to progress through the modules at their preferred pace while managing ongoing professional commitments.

Programme Curriculum

This module examines the principles and practical considerations involved in managing wealth transition across generations within the family office and private wealth context. Participants develop an understanding of how purpose, values, and long‑term objectives underpin effective succession and legacy planning, with particular focus on multigenerational and multi‑jurisdictional families.

The module provides an overview of key wealth and estate planning tools and structures, together with the regulatory and jurisdictional considerations that shape succession outcomes. Emphasis is placed on supporting structured needs assessment and informed decision‑making, enabling families to articulate and implement their long‑term intentions in a coherent and sustainable manner.

Critical cross‑border considerations are also addressed, including residency, domicile, and tax residency, and their implications for estate planning and wealth transfer. Participants examine how immigration status and jurisdictional differences influence succession strategies, family mobility, and long‑term legacy planning across jurisdictions.

The module further explores how purpose and values influence inter‑generational decision‑making and the stewardship of wealth over time. The use of advisory frameworks, governance mechanisms, and formal instruments to facilitate sensitive family discussions and manage transition across generations is examined within this context.

Through structured teaching, practical case studies, and guided discussion, participants gain applied insights into succession and legacy challenges faced by families operating within complex private wealth environments.
