Specialists perform a vital role in supporting advisors and providing specialised knowledge for clients. Their role requires technical expertise related to products, investments, insurance, FX, leverage etc.

The programmes selected here aims to support specialists in developing deeper technical expertise as well as the often overlooked functional skills related to managing internal and external relationships.

Titles CPD Hours

This 2-day FTS programme is specially curated for investment and wealth specialists who play a critical role in supporting both the client as well as the relationship manager or client advisor. This programme was developed based on the absence and demand for a structured functional training for specialists.

Besides investment knowledge of products, advisory and financial markets, the specialist often requires further critical functional competencies to perform their role successfully and to manage the multifaceted challenges they face. This programme covers key categories of functional management skills of any specialist i.e. successful stakeholder management, conducting effective joint calls, structuring effective briefs and managing difficult client situations.

The programme includes extensive use of interactive facilitation methods and practice sessions through the use of role plays and case studies to reinforce the application of concepts and strategies. The areas covered are as follows:

Successful stakeholder management

  • Alignment of strategy, goals and activity of Specialists with stakeholders
  • How to work with Relationship Managers (RM) and other stakeholders using segmentation and targeted objectives to best achieve and optimise outcomes
  • Establishing the role and value of the Specialists
  • How to work effectively as a team to best serve clients
  • How to handle conflicting priorities or requests

Best practices for effective joint calls

  • Positioning the Specialist team and setting “ground rules” in joint calls (face to face / telephone conversations with clients)
  • Pre and post call requirements
  • At the joint call
  • Common challenges to overcome
  • Handling difficult client conversations with RM
  • Role-play sessions

Delivering and structuring effective briefs and ideas

  • Impactful and relevant presentation to RMs at morning sales briefings
  • Communicating to RMs and clients effectively using the appropriate terminology
  • Keeping within the rules and regulations
  • Long term strategy vs short term pitches
